Hi guys…how’s life going on? hopefully everyone is enjoying theirs….by the way….back to the topic…TPACK….emm..what is TPACK? actually this is a brand new term to me….just had no idea at first..but I slowly understand about it after some readings and discussion in class.

Now..what is TPACK? TPACK is “the specialized, highly applied knowledge that supports content-based technology integration is known as“technological pedagogical content knowledge,” abbreviated TPCK or TPACK” (Koehler & Mishra 2008).

For you guys who do not like to read long definition, maybe the diagram below will help you to understand about TPACK.

Now..have you get what is TPACK mean? In simple words, TPACK is the combination of three element which are the Technology, Pedagogical and Content knowledge in a particular learning session.

Emmm..still blur? okay2….lets me explain more by giving you one of the examples of using TPACK in my previous teaching practicum….

Class: 3 Jujur

Topic :  Before and Now

Focused Skill: Listening

Integrated Skills : Speaking and Writing

Language Focus: Noun (names of transport)

In this lesson I had use a video song related to the language focus entitled “Transportation”

This is really a nice induction song since it had grabbed the students attention and attracted their interest towards the lesson. I had also use this song to teach them several types of transportation that they need to know in this lesson in the pre-listening stage. With the catchy rhymes and melody and also clear dictation from the song, the students were able to catch words in the song easily and prepare themselves for the next stage which was the while listening stage.

Pedagogical knowledge:

For pedagogical knowledge, I had used the one of the elements in *Desuggestopedia method which was music. The video song used in this lesson was catchy enough to attract the students attention through out the lesson. They were able to memorized several lines from the song in the end of the lesson and I considered this as success.

Content Knowledege:

The video song that I used in this lesson contained the content knowledge that I wanted to teach my students which was the the type of transportation.  So, by using the video song, I was able to teach the students and the students were able to learn  about transportation  in a very fun and interesting way.

And thats how I integrated TPACK in my class.  Its was quite an interesting lesson and I’m looking forward to integrate TPACK in my next lesson. However, I also need to make sure that it is suitable  enough for my students since it will  not always be an effective ways used in class.

Grant my wishes~~

Hi there..hows life so far? hope everyhting is fine…For this second entry.. I would love to share my 10 wishes regarding the usage of ICT in school. The wishes are more or less based on my practicum teaching experiences in one of the school in Kuala Lumpur…and there goes my 10 wishes..

I wish …..

10.  each of  the students is provided with laptop in their classroom and free laptop for students who cannot afford to won one.

This will ensure that all the students will have the opportunities to learn and use the ICT tools not only in class but also outside of the class.

9. there will be technicians managing all the ICT tools in school and make sure that all the ICT  tools are in good maintenance.

This will help to less the teacher’s burden and to make sure that all the facilities are in good condition.

8. each class is equipped with ICT tools that can support the teaching and learning process. eg: LCD, speakers, laptops for teachers.

This is important since all this tolls are needed to help the success of teaching and learning process in class

7. there is an Wi-Fi internet access in the school

The students and teachers will have the opportunity to make use the internet access for the sake of their teaching and learning.

6. teachers are provided with laptops and training course that can upgrade the teacher’s knowledge about ICT.

Laptops provided can be use for teaching and learning process for the students.Teachers also need to be exposed by the knowledge of ICT as not all teachers have mastered the ICT skills.

5. for the school to have an e-learning platform where all the students and teachers in school gather virtually to discuss anything related to their studies 24 hours.

They will have the chances to contact with each others 24 hours per day and there will be no time and place limit.

4.the school will have a good electrical wiring sytem.

as we all know, all the ICT tools need electrical power, so it is important to have a good electrical wiring system.

3. there will be a subject on ICT perse to the students.

This class will ensure that the students have the knowledge on how to use the ICT provided in school in a right way

2. to have more cooperation with the management and administration of the school.

The cooperation from the school administration is important since there are some school administration who doesnt support the usage of ICT and this will give the problems for teachers who want to use ICT in class.

1. to have a government policy and guidance  related to the usage of ICT that can support the IC T usagein school.

This government policy and guidance will be the standardize guidance and direction for the teachers and school to implement the usage of ICT in school.

and thats the end of my wishes list..

The practical moment was fun..My 3 friends and I was assigned to Sk.Jalan Sg. Besi 1 and I was given 2 classes to be taught. The Year 3 pupils for English and Year 4 pupils for Science.

I can say that the classes that I got were the mix ability class and this would be a challenge to be since I need to prepare lessons that can cater all the students regardless of their ability.

Throughout this practicum time, I’ve used lots of methods and teaching aids for my classes. Most of the time, ICT would be my favourite ways to approach the students. I was lucky since the school had quite a number of LCD and there were some rooms that can support the usage of LCD. So, I took the opportunity to use the LCD to the fullest. I had prepared power point slide shows, videos, songs, etc so that I can flash them through the LCD.  I just wan to share some of my experiences of using ICT in my class.

1st experience

Class : 3 Jujur

Level of proficiency: (Average to low proficiency)

Language focus: Personal pronoun.

For this lesson I had use video song  from u-tube as one of my teaching aids. The song that I used to teach personal pronouns was so effective since the song had a very catchy lyrics and melody. The students were able to remember and grab all the personal pronouns stated in the song fast and easy.

2nd Experience

Class : 3 Jujur

Level of proficiency: (Average to low proficiency)

Language focus: Noun (gardening tools)

For this lesson, I had use ICT which was the LCD to flash the pictures related to the words taught to them. The pictures were clear and big enough to be seen by the students. The pictures were also effective since they were able to memorize the words taught by relating them with the pictures shown to them.

Examples of pictures and slide shows shown to the students using the LCD:

In addition, I had use my own laptop to record and play an audio for this lesson. Recording played to the students was clear and the students were able to circle the words required easily while listening to the recording. It is important for me to prepare a good and clear tape recording so that the students will be able to listen to the recording tape without any hindrance and our evaluation on their listening skills will be valid and reliable.

3rd experience

Class : 3 Jujur

Level of proficiency: (Average to low proficiency)

Language focus: Noun (occupation)

For this lesson, I once again used the video from you-tube as set induction for my class. This song was so catchy and the students seemed to be attracted to this song. They were able to grab the words stated in that video song.

By using LCD to flash on the video, songs and slide shows, the students were seem to be more excited compare to the lesson that I did not use those ICT. It is because, by using ICT, the students can listen to the various sounds and see the interesting visual flashed by LCD.  It will make the lesson more interesting and fun.

However, eventhough there were a number of LCD in that school, but the rooms that can support the usage of LCD were only a few. So, I need to book the particular room before for my lesson. It was quite troublesome for me to think not only about how the lesson but also about the venue. I think that it is good to have classes that are equipped with LCD.  Teacher can use the LCD in the class and did not have to bring the LCD to every class that he/she want to teach.
