Restaurant city~

For this 5th entry , I will share about Restaurant City games that I played through Facebook. As for me, I can somehow use this games to promote the learning of English Language for the students. There are lots of things that can be used  manipulated for the sake of the students in the classroom. Im sure the lesson will be fun and the students will be interested in participating themselves in the lesson.

Now lets look at the lesson plan…

Year: 3

Language proficiency: Average Proficiency

Topic: Prepositions (Eg: behind, besides, in front of, between)

Skills: Listening and writing

Previous knowledge: Nouns(names of things in the restaurant. Eg: chair, table, front door, etc)

Learning objectives: In the end of the lesson, students will be able to :

-Place the things according to the preposition said by the teacher.

-Write the right preposition of the things said by the teacher.

Procedures:

Set induction

1)Teacher projects the game and gaining the students responses by asking them about the position and place of the things in the game.

2) Teacher lists down the students answers and lead them towards the topic which is “Prepositions”

Pre listening

1) Students discusses the prepositions listed with the teacher and the other preposition introduced by the teacher.

2) Teacher asks the students to make some notes about the preposition.

3)Teacher tests their understanding by asking the several questions on the preposition with the use the games projected.

Listening

1) Teacher asks the students to decorate the restaurant by listening to the teacher instruction on where to place the things in the restaurant.  Teacher will use the preposition that they had discussed previously.

-the students will click at the decorate icon before they can start decorating-

-start decorating based on the prepositions said by the teacher-

2) Teacher checks the students work.

Post listening

1) Teacher will project the games on the screen and said one of things in the screen.

2) The students are required to write the right prepositions related to the things said.

Closure

1) Teacher concludes the lesson and reemphasizes the topic taught.

Hopefully this simple lesson plan will be useful to everyone…I think thats all from now…daaa~~~

  2. Salam Fiera… I guess you are a multitasking person right? (Facebooking & Restaurant Citying.. :P)
I like your idea of using this online game to teach students on prepositions. Usually teachers tend to choose demonstration using realias like box & ball to show different preposition. But, using this game, indirectly we are encouraging students to acquire the knowledge by themselves.. Good points for you~ 🙂

Hi fiera…Superb lesson! I am impressed with your brilliant idea of using Restaurant City to teach pupils preposition..You have made the steps/instructions very clear at every stages,i can totally imagine it if it’s to be carried out in a classroom .Manipulating Restaurant City to teach preposition via a listening lesson is indeed an appealing yet meaningful approach of getting pupils to learn effectually as they can vividly see the positions of the things and thus use the apt prepositions correctly.Good job Fiera!

Hi Fiera! I love Restaurant City too and I’ve never thought this can be used to teach preposition! Good job! Your lesson is very well-written with clear objectives. I can see the integration of 4 skills though there is only 1 game/tool being used! Well done. I think besides teaching preposition, this game can be used to teach many other topics such as adjectives and nouns. Should try it out one day. Hehe…I have one question here, how will the teacher carry out the listening task? Is it an individual work, pair or group work?

    • hi bee guat…thanks dear for your comments.. Yes i agree with you, I can also teach adjectives, nouns, etc through this games. Maybe i’ll try to teach other topic for the next lesson..hu3..For this lesson, students will work individually during while listening activity since the lesson will be held in a computer lab and each of them will be provided with a computer…
